New Year's Day in Cairo and My Date with Sphinxy

New Year's Day in Cairo. We ended up going to McDonald's for breakfast since nothing else was open. No matter what you order from the menu, you have to get hash browns to go with it. Right? That's the best thing on the menu! NO HASH BROWNS! How can McDonald's possibly be out of hash browns? Update: March 2010. STILL no freaking hash browns at McDonald's. Is there a potato shortage in the world that I'm not aware of??? Anyway, we decided to go to the Pyramid's of Giza, since Van and Gavin had never been there before. We got the usual bombardment of touts first trying to direct our taxi away from the main gate. The scam is that they try to tell you that the gate isn't open and therefore you have to go in through a back way and rent a camel or a horse to go inside. Scam. We made it in to the gate without further incident. We got the usual harassment while inside, but I'm used to it by now.

Van had a guy come down from Cairo to pick us up and take us back to Alex. (it would have been better to take the train). He was supposed to pick us up over by the Egyptian Museum. While we waited, some Egyptian guy got his ass kicked by about 5 or 6 cops. No clue why.

On the ride back we saw some dudes hanging on the back of a mini van. Crazy!

Enjoy more pics from New Year's Day!
