Hochfelln - The High Fell

Hochfelln is a mountain in the area of Chiemgau, Germany. You can ski down the mountain in winter and in summer you can hike it. We took a cable car up to the top. In our cable car were two people that were going to paraglide I guess. There seems to be a lot of paragliding, parachuting and hot air ballooning. Near the Alps. What the hell? Also, there is an iron cross on the summit that was placed there on August 25, 1886.

It was another chilly, rainy day in Bavaria. Turns out Thomas had a friend that was working that day, so we got to go up the mountain for free. We took the cable car up. I felt like throwing up every time we reached a support pole for the cables because the cable car would swing a bit, Blah.

We walked around some trails when we reached the summit. There were some men assembling a scaffolding to remodel an old building. I marveled at how they weren't wearing any safety harnesses or anything. After about an hour, we could hear the rumblings of thunder in the distance. I sure as hell didn't want to be up in a cable car during a thunderstorm, so we headed back down. At the base, Thomas' friend showed us some behind the scenes workings of the big cable car. Freaky.

This guy was freaking me out with no harness!

Me & Thomas.

The iron cross at the summit.

Cool flowers.

Weird Invasion of the Body Snatchers pod-like flowers.

Weird black bees.

Passing some old people hiking down. Suckers!

Heading back down the mountain.

Passing another cable car.

And so my trip drew to a close. It was time to head back to the U.S. and visit the fam and Topaz. But, I'll be back for Germany part II next month!
