There is such a huge need for local vets in the Emirates. Right now there are only four and the rest are foreigners. In addition to this, there is a huge problem in the local pets shops. The animals are barely surviving in unspeakable conditions. There is only one inspector for the municipality, and she is in charge of over 80 shops. We were able to get our vet students to volunteer to help with inspections in an effort to create a more hands-on approach to their education and simultaneously do some community service.
