Last Safari in Chobe

We opted for one more early morning game drive because we hadn't seen the "Big Five" yet.  The Big Five consists of:  the Cape buffalo, rhinoceros, African elephant, leopard, and lion.

This term was coined by big-game hinters and refers to the five most difficult animals in Africa to hunt on foot due to the degree of danger involved, rather than their size.  The term is now used for marketing purposes by safari tour operators.

At this point, we had seen three of the five.  This morning we were hoping to see a lion or a leopard.

The fowl were making a huge ruckus.  Our tour guide told us that they were sending an alarm because there was likely a lion or leopard around.  Soon after, we got word that a lion was spotted in the area.  It was the tail end of the rainy season and the brush was very dense, which would not make it easy to spot one.  We looked for quite a long time, and finally had to give up.

We saw this massive herd of several hundred Cape buffalo.

After our game drive, we packed up and headed over the border to Zimbabwe.
