Let's See Mondsee

In case you haven't noticed, I love Salzburg.  It was a beautiful day for just strolling around the city considering I've been there half a dozen times and seen most of the sites.  Thomas was sweet enough to drive over and pick me up after he got off work and took me over to the town of Mondsee or Moon Lake, aptly named because of its lake's crescent moon shape.  Mondsee is only about a 20 minute drive from Salzburg.
My favorite view of the Salzburg Fortress.
Schloss Leopoldscron
Another view of Salzburg from the hilltop at Nonnberg Abbey.
Nonnberg Abbey is a Benedictine monastery.  It was founded ca. 714 by St. Rupert of Salzburg and is the oldest women's religious house in the German-speaking world.   Its most famous postulant was Maria Augusta Kutschera...who later became Maria von Trapp of Sound of Music fame.
Yet another view of Salzburg.
St. Michael Church of Mondsee Abbey built by Odlio, Duke of Bavaria, around 748. It was used in the filming of the wedding scene for The Sound of Music.
Thomas and I enjoying an evening at Mondsee or Moon Lake.
The beautiful Baroque interior of St. Michael Church of Mondsee Abbey was warm and inviting.
A dock on Mondsee surrounded by the Alps.
There happened to be a free concert by a youth orchestra from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA when we arrived.

Salzburg Fortress from Mozart Footbridge.  Also featured in The Sound of Music.

The Hills Are Alive!!!!!!!

Aaaaahhh, The Sound of Music, such an iconic film. Who would have guessed that the people of Austria don't know this film? The movie that was filmed here in Salzburg in 1964. Well, I was very excited to visit some of spots where some of the scenes were filmed. I actually made two trips to Salzburg and am planning a third in August so I can do an "official" Sound of Music tour...oooohhh!

"You are 16 going on 17...."

Pegasus statue in Mirabell Gardens where they filmed..."Do a deer a female deer..."

Me in Mirabell Gardens with the High Salzburg Fortress in the background.

More Mirabell Gardens "Tea, a drink with jam and bread.."

Leopoldskron Castle or the Von Trapps backyard in the movie.

Hellbrun Palace served as the front of the Von Trapp home.

More Mirabell gardens...check out the very end of Do-Re-Mi.

Most people don't know it, but Edelweiss was not an old Austrian folk song. It was written by Rogers and Hammerstein exclusively for the movie. here was a surprise of some school kids singing the song in Mirabell Gardens.
