So, I've been mentioning these UNESCO World Heritage Sites that I've visited. I just learned about UNESCO a couple of years ago, so I never intentionally went to a UNESCO site until recently.
What is UNESCO? It stands for: United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. It was founded on November 16, 1945. Its primary purpose is create the conditions for genuine dialogue based upon respect for shared values and the dignity of each civilization and culture.
The World Heritage List includes 890 properties forming part of the cultural and natural heritage which the World Heritage Committee considers as having outstanding universal value.
These include 689 cultural [Cultural site] , 176 natural [Natural site] and 25 mixed [Mixed site] properties in 148 States Parties. As of April 2009, 186 States Parties have rati
fied the World Heritage Convention.
