Punch Bug Yellow!

How many of you played "Punch Bug" growing up (or the "slug bug" variation)? I loved that game. Unfortunately, that game died out along with the Volkswagen Beetle. Yes, V.W. came up with an updated version, but it wasn't the same. Who knew they were still making them in Mexico until 2003? Here in Egypt you can still see at least 5 -6 of them on the road a day. I managed to see all of the ones I included in this post in 24 hours (at least these are the ones I was able to get pictures of). Makes for a great Punch Bug game!

In Brazil, the Beetle was called Fusca.

Oooohh, two Beetles for one! The orange one is hiding under this cover!

Did you know? It was ultimately the longest-running and most-produced automobile of a single design.

Did you know? The car was originally known as Käfer, the German word for "beetle" when production began in 1938.

In Belgium the Beetle is known as the Cochinelle or Ladybug.
Known as: Bhyaguate Car in Nepal meaning Frog Car, and Kura in Malaysia meaning Turtle.
What a sexy car!

I do get The Simpsons here in Egypt and caught a clip from this episode today (couldn't download the clip to due to copyright restrictions here by Sony):

Bart: Punch buggy red! (punches Lisa)
Lisa: Ow! You are such an immature…punch buggy white! (punches Bart)
Mrs. McConnell: Stop fighting.
Lisa: He started it! He did punch buggy first.
Girl: What's punch buggy?
Bart: When you see a Volkswagen bug, you punch somebody and yell the color.
(The class sees Volkswagen World.)
Kid: Punch buggy blue! (punches kid) ow!
Kid: Punch buggy green! (punches kid) ow!
Kid: Punch buggy taupe! (punches kid) ow!
Kid: Two for flinching! ow! ow!

And here is a funny commercial I found from Superbowl 2010:
