Eiffel Tower & Versailles

The second part of the day, we headed out to the Eiffel Tower for lunch, as it was part of out little city tour.  My dad and I had the brilliant idea of climbing to the top because there was a ridiculous wait to take the elevator.  Uh no.  It was freezing cold and windy.  We made it up about one flight, took a few pictures, turned around and headed back down.
The Eiffel Tower was built for the 1889 Paris Exhibition, and was not meant to be permanent.
During WWII, when Hitler visited Paris, the French cut the lift cables, so that if he wanted to go to the top, he would have to climb.  1,665 steps are needed to climb to the top.

Views from not quite the top.

One of three replicas of the Statue of Liberty in Paris.
Next we headed to Versailles whose construction dates back from the mid 1600s.
Mom, Dad and I taking a selfie in the famous Hall of Mirrors where, in 1871, Prussian King Wilhelm was proclaimed German Emperor and the German Empire was founded.  After WWI, the same room was used as the site of the opening of the Paris Peace Conference in 1919, and the signing of the Treaty of Versilles.
The beautiful gardens of Versailles.
