After my week between Berlin and Prague, I ditched the Vienna part of my itinerary and headed back to Traunstein.
The journey wasn't quite as easy as it seemed. It was going to be an 8 hour train ride. Ok fine. Thankfully, I wrote down the itinerary that I found online complete with the tracks the connecting trains would be leaving from. More on that later. So, I hopped on for the first leg of my trip which was to some city I never heard of in Germany. The conductor came over to me and said something to me in Czech and pointed towards the front of the train. I just gave him a blank stare and then he walked off. I went to sleep. Thankfully, a nice girl pointed out that at the next stop the train was going to decouple. Just in time, I moved to the front train car that would take me to my next stop. The train was running a bit late and this is where my notes that I got off the internet saved my ass because I only had 3 minutes before my train was leaving, but I was able to run directly to the next platform and jump on just in time. I had no time to determine what platform I needed to get to. Whew!
Hee hee.
I have never seen such a disgusting slug in my life. And what is it about to eat? It looks like a tiny brain! Ewww!
Just below that is a beautiful view from the baroque style St. Pankras Holy Pilgrimage Church. It was built around 1427 and sits 150m above the valley.

We decided to take a drive to Karlstein and take a short hike up a hill to the Karlstein Castle ruins. It was built by Count Peilstein around the 12th century. Later, the castle belonged to the Bavarian Dukes. Remains of a house, a chapel dedicated to St. Andrew and the round keep from raw blocks and broken bricks give you an idea of the former size.
