Downpour in the Desert

The skies looked slightly ominous this morning.  My students begged me to let them go early, so I did.  As I walked out to my car, I noticed some nasty clouds and a sprinkle of rain.

Little did I know, an email was being sent out to all teachers ordering them to let students go home due to the impending weather.
Strange looking skies as I made my way out to my car.
The rain started immediately.
My wiper got stuck.  I stopped for a minute, hoping the rain would slow down.  It didn't, so I got out of my car, and in the 5 seconds it took me to unstick my wiper I got drenched.  It was like someone has thrown a freezing cold bucket of water on my back.  Now I was shivering, but determined to get home.

I had to drive with my wipers off because they kept getting stuck.  The roads were totally flooded within 3 minutes.  I could hear sirens everywhere.
This is me turning on to my street where the American school is.  You can see the yellow fire trucks in front of me.  The school got flooded with rain and the staff was afraid the roof would collapse.

After I arrived home, I found every room with windows to be covered in water.  I spent the afternoon mopping it all up, and ended up with a full bucket of dirty water.

These places are not made for rain.  The water just came right in the windows from the outer sill, and dripped down the walls onto the floor.  What a mess.

I have never seen rain that hard in my life.
