Orang Utans!

This afternoon, we headed to Semenggoh Orang-utan and Wildlife Rehabilitation Sanctuary to see the Orang-utans during feeding time, which is the only time visitors are allowed.  Sometimes they don't come out at all for food, as they are able to forage on their own.  Orang-utan literally means "man of the forest."  Borneo is only one of two islands , the other being Sumatra, where they exist in the world.  As usual, due to human interference and destruction, orang-utans are on the endangered species list.

A family tree for the orang-utans
This little girl was crying in a tree because she was afraid of the visitors.  The park guides, who keep a vigilant eye on the orang-utans for their safety and the safety of the guests, asked us to step back aways so she could feel comfortable enough to come down from her tree.

This is her sister who came over to rescue her.
The shy girl came timidly out of the brush with her sister guiding the way.
Sisterly love.
This big guy became suddenly agitated and chased the females away.  The park rangers were fearing for our safety and asked us to step back in case he decided to attack us.  They are unbelievably fast and strong.
Big boy eating his share of bananas.

Suddenly the big guy got very agitated and chased the two girls up a tree.  The rangers were calling him and hitting the ground with a stick in order to try and distract him and hopefully calm him down, and really hopefully not attack us.
What a way to carry food:  mouth, hands and feet!

Heading over to the feeding platform.
