French Cooking

My friend, Azra, got us some vouchers for L'atelier des Chefs at Le Meridian Hotel in Dubai.
We decided to do the steak menu:

  • Chargrilled rump steak with spicy roast potatoes and cherry tomato salad with balsamic vinegar dressing.
  • Dessert: A gooey chocolate and hazelnut brownie with a hot chocolate sauce  YUMMY!
Our chef was from Turkey, but studied in Lyon, France

  •  Tips for a good steak:  Rub some salt on it right before cooking, just before the steak is finished, add some butter to the pan and baste the steak in it.

Azra, Peter and an Egyptian couple.
Our chef told us sometimes people ask him questions and then google the answer to see if he is right.  Who does that??!!  So, because we were nice...he was very generous with the wine.
Yummy!

And our finished product- ready to eat!

The Music Room!

Finally!  We made it!  The Music Room is the best place to play in Dubai. It is located in the Majestic Hotel in the "old" part of Dubai- Bur Dubai. We didn't get paid or anything, but the gig was a lot of fun!
The show was called "Best of British Rock."  We played with a few other bands, which is fun too.  Among our list of songs:  Led Zeppelin-Stairway, Radiohead-Creep, Billy Idol-Rebel Yell, David Bowie-Rebel Rebel..to name a few.
Here is a small compiliation of some songs...

Some friends that came out to see us!  Thanks for coming out!

Dubai Miracle Garden

Today we decided to take a ride out to Dubai Miracle Garden.
According to their website:
More than 45 million blooming flowers in stunning designs, awesome shapes and structures. Eye catching color combinations achieved through 45 different flower varieties and color.

Miracle Garden is one of a kind in the region and in the world for such a unique display and extravagant outdoor recreational destination. Miracle Garden is in its First Phase.

Miracle Garden has the record in Guinness Book of Records for having the longest wall of flowers which will give a new landmark for Miracle Garden and for the City of Dubai, which is believed to be the leader in diverse and cultural tourist attraction.

Miracle Garden will be a renewable idea allowing to have new beauty, new designs and new attraction season after season.

Couldn't figure out if this woman was supposed to be Arab, Filipino, or what.

Remnants of Dubailand; and amusement park that never quite took off.
I thought this looked like a giant vag.

The Human League!

My quiz team and I decided to go to The Human League concert in Dubai Irish Village.  We were surprised to learn that it was The Human League's 4th trip here!

Granted, it is still September, but wow, Dubai is still so much more hot and humid than Al Ain.  I was just dripping sweat and almost passed out by the third song.  I had to start pouring water on myself just to be marginally cool.

We were all kind of reminiscing about where we were when The Human League had their big hit, "Don't You Want Me".  It was released in the UK in November 1981 making it the Christmas number 1 song that year. It didn't make its way to the US until sometime July 1982, of course, because of its MTV music video version of the song.

Who knew, when I was a 12 year old girl, that it would be 32 years later that I would actually be seeing them live...in Dubai no less!

*Please excuse the bad, shaky camera work.   It's hard to take video and dance at the same time!
The original music video that put them on the map.
Me & Derek.  We lost the rest of our team in the crowd.
Opening song:  "Mirror Man"

Keep Feeling Fascination!

Don't You Want Me Baby!!!

Encore:  "Together in Electric Dreams"  ...but wait!  No "Human?"  Ok, the song wasn't critically acclaimed, but it was number one in the US!  Number ONE!  What the hell?

After being disgustingly drenched in sweat, we drove back to Al Ain and I was still wet after I got home.  Yuck.  Had a blast though!
