The Hill

Today was going to be another action packed day of visiting relatives and lots and lots of hiking.  We began the morning with wandering around town and taking pictures of interesting doors and buildings.

I was on a mission to find where this photo was taken in Roseto, but was unsuccessful.
Still trying to figure out this Latin translation.  Something about the earth and death and I don't know what.
Local folklore says that a witch cannot enter your home without taking an inventory of the objects it crosses.  Many people still leave brooms out because a witch won't enter until she counts all the bristles on the broom.

I was told there was a house with a mustache. People think a barber lived there once.
Behind this door is where the city keeps all of it's gold that adorns the Madonna.  I love the little hand.

We got to say hi to cousin Gregorio Policelli who is 96 years old!  Lookin' good!
Mary's dad was excited that we found him and wanted to say hi!

We set off on a walk.  I was in search of this vantage point...the picture below isn't quite it.  I will have to try again sometime.
After visiting with cousin Gregorio, we set off on another long walk.  This time, we had our sites set on a big hill where we were told we could see as far as the sea.  This is Roesto from a new vantage point for me, but not quite the one from the photo above.
A flock of sheep and a few random goats.

A prayer niche.
The hill loaded with windmills, that seemed to go on forever, that we never quite made it up.  It doesn't seem too bad here, because this was pretty much the summit, but it still seemed to go on forever.  HUGE blisters after this.  Didn't see the sea either.  Awww.
