Last Hash and Jellyfish!

It is Friday. last day for me to hit the beach and time for my last Hash run. Gavin, Mary and I got up early and decided to head to the beach with about 3 million other people. Seriously. We went back to the "private" beach. Ugh. The waves were super rough but it was very hot and we needed to cool off. We went to get in the water and a huge group of men from the public side decided to cheer for us as we entered the water. Imagine being at a baseball game and someone gets a hit...it was the weird roar of the crowd. Very unnerving. I wore a shirt over my bathing suit for the rest of the afternoon! At one point while we were in the water my thigh started to sting really badly! Yikes! A jellyfish must've got me. My first sting in my life. Gavin and Mary got stung too. The lifeguard squeezed some fresh lime juice on it which surprisingly helped.
Around 3pm it was time to get ready for my last Hash.
The sea of hundreds of white sun umbrellas is unreal!

Time for me to go. Time to say goodbye. Time for my last Hash. One more Hash! I got a cute certificate for completing 11 runs! 11??? I think I did more than that, but that's ok!
Horsey!

Last run!

Mummy baby!

Get me out of here!

I'll miss you all!

Sunflowers!

Gavin, sometimes you are such an a**! Just kidding! You know I love you!

Egyptian trash compactors.

Just another day on the farm.

Tradition dictates that if any one is wearing new shoes, a designated person must drink from said shoe...baby shoes...yumm.

I thought drinking was supposed to be a "punishment?!"

Agamy Again.

Another Hash in Agamy. Dalia, our hostess, had a sweet golden Retriever puppy that the other kids were terrified of! A group of kids decided to throw rocks at me too. Creeps!

Use #1001 for duct tape: Car paint!

More goats!

Girl watching our antics.

Boy in doorway.

No barbed wire? No problem! Just glue shards of glass to a wall!

Another Hash. Another Run.

Ah yes. Another Hash run. Gerhardt (the German guy) was going to be the only one running today (everyone was feeling lazy I guess)...so I actually decided to run with him. We ran through a bunch of thistles today...yowch!

Cute little goat. The size of Topaz!

Keep Them Doggies Rollin' ~Raw Hide!

Another Hash and my time has finally come. Time for the "naming!" Every Hasher gets some sort of crazy moniker chosen by the group based on something you did, said, or some goofy person you look like. It is said that, " Being given a Hash name is the ultimate accolade in hashing and it is only done when enough is known about you and your failings. Hash names are not meant to be honorific; indeed they are invariably derogatory or humiliating." Some examples are: Highbeam, Skid Mark, Fig Jam, Double Entry, Call Girl, Ewe Trollop, etc.

Sometimes these things take time; the group needs to be inspired. After 5 months on the Alexandria Hash circuit - my time came. It's.....well if you want to know...just ask. Let's just say I told a story about an experience floating in the Dead Sea. Anyone who's ever been to the Dead Sea may be able to relate to my anecdote.

I was then "baptized" with my new name with the traditional water from the very clean, not parasite-infested, not disgustingly dirty Nile River. Just kidding, it's not really Nile water. Or is it?

"How does this thing work?" (in case you are wondering, his t-shirt says: "I support two teams: New Zealand, and anyone playing Australia!")
Is this someone's house?
Trail Blazing! *groan*

The cow says, "Moooooooo."

"I baptize thee........."
Such a motley crew!

The Christmas Hash in Egypt!

I got up early this morning to do a special Christmas Hash, and ran into my boab (apartment manager) on my way out the door. He looked at me and said, "Happy Valentine!" to me. Well, it's the thought that counts!

Off I went to the special Hash House Harrier Run at Montazah Palace Gardens in Alexandria. Montazah palace was built in 1892 by Abbas Hilmi Pasha who was the last viceroy of Egypt. The palace is closed to the public, but the gar
dens cover over 100 acres and include palm trees, pine trees and flowers. Also, there is a bridge that was built by King Farouk that leads out to the sea.

Since it was Christmas, we made it a "red" run ... so you have to wear something red. The guys wore their Christmas hats. I wore mine along with a red satin robe that I have for effect. We still got hooted and hollered at, as usual, and some creepy guys tried to grab me and the girls as they drove by. No problem, I picked up a nice hefty rock and so did the other two girls. Just try that again - dickheads. To our dismay they didn't come back, but the grounds were so green and beautiful that it was worth it.

Hoopoe or "Thub Thub" is a species of bird that was considered sacred in Ancient Egypt and was depicted on the walls of tombs and temples.

We also managed to have a Christmas party and even attended a few!

What the hell is this thing? Like some kind of hillbilly Santa!

Strolling Down the Corniche.

Since Geoff (the guy that runs the Hash) is out of town, and everyone else is either too lazy or too inexpierenced to set the run - we decided to take a stroll on the "Corniche," which is the road that runs along side the Mediterranean Sea. It really is a pain-in-the butt for women or foreigners in general to walk it, because people just constantly harass you. They just like to shout things mostly; it's usually the staple, "Welcome to Egypt," or "What is your name," but it is annoying and makes walking alone extremely unpleasant.

We noticed some kids playing "football" and marvelled at how there are no proper play grounds or places in general for kids to go and play. many of the boys we playing in their holey socks or bare feet because, presumably, they can't afford proper gym shoes.

No shoes? No problem!
