Attack of the Children!

This week's Hash took us back out to the farms. People were celebrating and selling Egyptian flags. I wondered exactly what they were celebrating. Apparently, Egypt is getting ready to play against Algeria for the World Cup football qualifier. I found this article today:
ALGIERS, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Three players from Algeria's national football team were hurt on Thursday when stones were thrown at their bus as they arrived in Cairo for Saturday's World Cup qualifier with Egypt, Algeria's sports minister said.
Some of the injured players had been hospitalised, he said.
"It was a very regrettable incident," Hachemi Djiar Algeria's minister for youth and Sport told Algerian radio by telephone from the Egyptian capital.
Djiar said FIFA officials were aware of the incident and were meeting to decide what action to take.

Yikes. The actual match is being played today, so hopefully no one will get maimed or killed!

UPDATE: Egypt won tonight, but the score was only 2-0, so apparently there has to be a rematch. Look out!

So, anyway. We went on our Hash Run, and as usual, we we
re bombarded by children. I can't even imagine what a sight we must be to the locals: a bunch of white people in running gear inexplicably running back and forth yelling, "On on!" One of them even snuck up behind me and did a little pinching motion with his hands like he was going to pinch my butt! Little...uh...sweet boy. Yeah.

We are almost like celebrities. People run up to us asking, "What's your name?" and "Welcome to Egypt." I think some are not so happy with us and occasionally I get a finger wag or someone makes a tsking sound at us. But most are interested and amused by our presence.
Attack of the children!
Back off so I can get a picture!

Dancing Egyptians!

More dancing! If you listen closely you can even hear the celebratory tongue trill:
"lelelelelelelelelelelelelelelelelelelelerrrrrrrrrreeeeee!!!!"
